Today we are on the island of Crete, our last of the Greek islands that we are going to tour. We started the day off early, having breakfast in the dinning room. At breakfast we discussed what we were going to do on the island and to no surprise, no one had a plan. We got off the ship with one goal in mind, make it to the main part of town. Luckily the ship had a shuttle bus waiting for us in the port. We took a 30 minute ride to the town of Xania (pronounced Hania). Once there, we toured all of the tourist shops and checked out the beautiful harbor. This harbor was built hundreds of years ago by the Venetians. The lighthouse that they build still stands and is a monument of the island. Once we finished touring, we all debated going back to the ship early. Then Sean decided to look up what there was to see on the island. He found a beach that had pink sand and convinced us to try and find it. We rented a car, grabbed a map, and headed out on the highway. After about an hour of driving we made it to Kissamos, one of the many pink sand beaches of Crete. We spent a couple of hours there swimming in the warm, clear water until it was time to go back to the ship. We then drove back to harbor and, after shopping for last minute souvenirs, we caught the shuttle back to the ship. This was Sean's favorite island. He loved the beaches and the possibilities of hiking and exploring. He plans to go back there one day. After our long day of touring, we ate at the dinning room and then headed to bed.
