Day 5- Bodrum, Turkey
Today we docked at the beautiful town of Bodrum, Turkey. This is called the French Riviera of Turkey because of its beautiful landscape and high end beaches. Many celebrities visit this town and it is said that paparazzi can be seen floating on boats in the harbor trying to snap a photo of the rich and famous. It is also the home of another one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This is the Castle of the Knights of St. Peter. It is a crusaders fortress that was built on the site of the castle of King Mausolos and was constructed using marble from the above ground tomb of the king. It's lasting legacy is its name, mausoleum, used to describe any above ground tomb. It is now Turkey's largest underwater archeological museum. We started our morning with breakfast at the Windjammer café. We then packed up disembarked on the dock of Bodrum. We took the approximately 2 mile walk along the beautiful harbor to the castle. The streets were lined with shops and cafes. There were also dogs everywhere around the city just sleeping. We then toured the ancient castle from the tallest tower to the dungeon. After spending quite a few hours there, we decided to grab a bite to eat. We then decided to head back to the ship as we were all feeling the strain of the hot day and the long walk. Once onboard we all claimed some pool chairs on the top deck of the ship. Lyndsey and Mom took a dip in the pool and everyone took a nice long nap on the chairs. Later the captain came over the loud speaker and announced that we were leaving the port. After a long, loud blow of the horn, we began to pull away from the dock. As we did so, the passengers on a neighboring cruise ship waved goodbye to us. After another nice nap on the deck chairs we went to dinner in the dinning room. Mom and Lyndsey headed straight to bed after dinner while Sean and David stopped at the casino for a little bit of play time. Tomorrow we will be in Rhodes, Greece. We can't wait to get there!
